Emmanuel Jouthe believes that all performance is born from the desire to share one's imagination, to communicate a particular state. His unique signature combines spirited energy with dramatic intensity. With his process, which revolves around the body and the performer, Jouthe seeks to reach the spectator as a human being, by working around expectations, creating conceptual and instinctive situations where functional movement is on equal footing with poetic movement.

“Before the choreography is conceived, and over and above the pleasure I get from drawing lines for bodies in space – working with dynamics that can be explosive and impulsive, or slow and/or sensual – I am interested in the particularities of the body, in the person dancing.

I am fascinated by the idea that, even while apparently still, the body has no choice but to move. It is constantly under the influence of an organic oscillation, which tenses and relaxes relative to its environment, generating what I call ‘poetic secretions’. I need to capture these moments and integrate them into my choreography so that I can communicate beauty, space, drama and time.”
