Path of identities
This project fulfills a desire to celebrate a diversity of identities that make up Canada.
Using the same creative guidelines as ÉCOUTE POUR VOIR, Emmanuel Jouthe, along with two other dancers from the company, will take the piece to 6 different cities: Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Whitehorse, and Vancouver, meeting each time with 8 to 10 professional and non-professional dancers. The performers will be made to dance according to an acute consciousness of their close relationships and of their own personal transformations. Each performer will then be responsible for creating a 3-4-minute solo, and for sharing the resulting vivid experience with people in their communities. These solos will be performed in public places chosen by our local partners.
To prolong this experience of a danced vision of Canadian identity, ATLAS will also venture into museum territory. The exhibit, which principally takes the form of an interactive video installation, engages visitors in the bodily experience of dance. It is about sensing and reflecting on our relationship with others through the medium of the dancing body. This interactive installation will comprise 8 video screenings, offering visitors authentic encounters with dancers. For this installation, 8 solos (one soloist per city and 2 solos from the company’s performers) will be selected. Each screening will feature a device that generates a different starting body posture. These devices will be integrated as different staging components.
